Monty is known as the “Man
Who Listens to Horses”. He is one of the pioneers
of non-violent training techniques and is best
know for his Join-Up® principles. His mission
is to leave the world a better place than he
found it for horses and for people, too.
Monty first learned to
"listen" to horses while observing wild mustangs
in Nevada at the age of thirteen. He spent hours
silently watching the feral horses interact
with each other. He realised they used a discernable,
effective and predictable body language to communicate,
set boundaries, show fear and express annoyance,
relaxation or affection. In a moment that would
change his life and the lives of horses and
people forever, Monty understood that this silent
language would allow training to commence in
a much more effective and humane manner. Later,
he would name this moment of partnership “Join~Up,”
and it would become the foundation of all his

All of the
following courses will allow you
start a trust-based relationship
with your horse, which will provide
a valuable foundation for any equine
discipline. All courses are based
on groundwork with horses and do
not include any ridden exercises.
Minimum age of participants for
these clinics is 16 years, or 13
years if accompanied by a parent
or guardian.

This 2-day
course is designed to introduce
beginners to our gentle equine companions.
It's also great as a refresher for
people that have been away from
horses for a significant period
of time. Learn the basics of good
horsemanship and see how you can
begin to apply Monty's concepts
today.
This qualification
gives you an overall understanding
of Monty’s concepts, in various
environments, in addition to a well
rounded knowledge in the basics
of horse performance, breeding,
feeding and nutrition, with a strong
emphasis on horse psychology. The
training for this certificate consists
of four parts; part 1 - completion
of a Join-Up® & Follow-Up® course,
part 2 - an additional 1-2 weeks
of practical training building your
skills in Dually® halter work, long
lining, herding exercises and loading,
part 3 - self paced field study
for a period of 10 months, part
4 - practical assessments and written
examinations. Graduates of the Introductory
Course are offered the opportunity
to continue their education by completing
the Advanced Course and, upon personal
selection by Monty, the Instructors’
Internship.

This 3-day
course will introduce you to the
language of 'Equus' and offers you
a solid understanding of the signs
and reciprocal gestures of the language
of horses. As a student you will
be familiarised with the first steps
of Monty's Join-Up® process, which
teaches humans to communicate with
horses using their natural body
language. You will learn Monty's
concepts through demonstrations,
discussions, video and practical
hands-on exercises and round pen
work.
Effective long-lining
will bring your horse into balance,
enhance their outline, and prepare
them both physically and psychologically
for further learning. This unique,
easy to learn technique combines
Monty's Join-Up® concepts with the
effectiveness of long lining. This
2-day course is designed to provide
any horse advocate or owner with
the knowledge of why double line
training is so valuable and the
practical tools to apply this knowledge.
It is advised that the Join-Up®
& Follow-Up® course has been
completed before attending this
course.
